A free Wikipedia?

From a recent Wikizine RSS feed:

"Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That's what we're doing."-- Jimmy Wales, July 2004

Well, that's what you are trying to do. Free, as in really free, as in 100 percent free, is unobtainable. How about trying something achievable rather than some lofty altruistic goal? I've asked the question before, why is free knowledge better? The IRS offers free advice. Libraries are free. Roads are free. These things I mentioned are provided by the government.

Now, what is free that isn't provided by the government? There must be somethings beside air?

So we will have a free Wikipedia, that is also free of government I guess. It will be free, but the government wont provide it. Wikipedia and Air. Both free, and not provided by the government.

The point is perhaps, that capitalism will become a part of Wikipedia, or government will become a part of Wikipedia.
